Senior Corporate Counsel - Patents, Premier Technology Company, Pacific Northwest
Senior Counsel or Counsel – Patents, Premier Technology Company (Exclusive), Pacific Northwest
Our client, a premier technology company based on the West Coast, has asked us to help them find a business-minded patent attorney to add to its talented team. This person will help to manage the company’s worldwide patent portfolio, will engage in client counseling, and will work with outside counsel to manage the filing, prosecution and maintenance of US and foreign patents. This person will be responsible for working with software development engineers to determine patentability, handling pre-litigation patent disputes and inquiries, and managing opinion work and patent licensing. The ideal candidate would have experience in technology areas such as web services, digital media, wireless communications, e-commerce, and business methods patents. Though viable candidates must have experience in some of these areas, prior patent experience in all of these areas is not required to be considered. Experience managing trademark and domain applications, prosecution and dispute matters would also be helpful. The company has the ability to make this either a Corporate Counsel-level role for a qualified candidate with 3-6 years experience or a Senior Corporate Counsel position for a qualified candidate with 7+ years’ experience.
All candidates must have significant prior experience doing patent preparation and prosecution, particularly in the areas of software and internet patents. Our client strongly prefers candidates with prior law-firm training, and prior in-house experience is also desirable, though not required. Some patent litigation experience is fine, but this is not a position for candidates who have principally been IP litigators throughout most of their careers. Our client offers very good compensation on a scale commensurate with experience, and the compensation package will include significant equity-based compensation. J.D. from a respected law school, admission to a state bar and the USPTO (except in extraordinary circumstances) are required. Our client is willing to relocate a strong candidate.
We have been working with this company for several years and have placed multiple candidates there, so we can provide you with useful assistance throughout the company’s extensive interview process. Please submit your resume to Brad Bruner, Esq. at The Partners Group for consideration, at westcoast-north@partners-group.com. Of course everything we talk about will be confidential, and we will not submit you for this or any other position without your prior approval.
