Legal Director - Patents, Premier Technology Company (Exclusive), Pacific Northwest
Our client, a premier technology company based in the Pacific Northwest, has exclusively asked us to find a highly skilled, business-minded senior patent attorney capable of managing the company’s very large and growing worldwide patent portfolio. This Director-level position will engage in direct client counseling, liaising with outside counsel to manage filing, prosecuting and maintaining of US and foreign patents, and mentoring junior patent counsel. Responsibilities include working with software development engineers to determine which inventions to patent, handling pre-litigation patent disputes and inquiries, and managing opinion work and patent licensing. The ideal candidate will have experience in technology areas such as web services, digital media, wireless communications, e-commerce, and business-method patents. Experience with open source issues, IP licensing and dispute resolution would also be helpful. Competitive candidates will have at least 7 years’ legal experience at a minimum (more experience would be very welcome), including at least 4 years of patent preparation and prosecution. This person should have a strong track-record in the areas of e-commerce and internet-related patents, and ideally their background will include a combination of in-house and law firm experience. Some patent litigation experience is fine, but this is not a position for candidates who have principally been IP litigators throughout most of their careers. At least two years’ training in a respected law firm, a J.D. from a respected law school, USPTO admission, and admission to at least one U.S. state bar are required.
