ENTREPRENEURIAL TAX ASSOCIATE (Charleston, SC; no billable hour requirement; non-remote)

Law FirmCharleston, South Carolina

Our client, a small but highly sophisticated and entrepreneurial tax boutique in Charleston, SC, has asked for our firm’s assistance in identifying two associates for their unique and rapidly growing practice.  The focus of the work will be on complex high-net-worth estate planning, asset protection, corporate and individual IRS compliance, tax controversy work, M&A compliance, and on the creation of novel tax structures for a national clientele of privately held corporate clients and principals.  Ideal candidates will have at least 4 years of on-point training in either a large firm or dedicated boutique environment.  The firm operates under a novel business model which positions it as the tax compliance wing of a multipronged ‘family office’ group of business service providers, and which generates significant referral work from the other members.  The expectation is to expand the business model across several new cities in the next 3-5 years, so this is the ideal opportunity to get in at the ground floor.  Compensation is base-plus-bonus and can rival Biglaw numbers.  The firm is well-capitalized and is focused on finding the right philosophical and practical fit, and they are willing to pay up to attract the right talent.  Firm has no billable hour requirement and does offer a path to partnership.  Top academic and professional credentials are required.  An LLM in Tax is preferred but not a prerequisite for consideration.  The hired lawyers will be physically housed at the office in Charleston and will need South Carolina bar licensure or be willing to sit for the next available exam.  Culturally, the firm is not looking for paper-pushers, but rather for independent, entrepreneurial, outside-the-box thinkers who take ownership of their work and who are focused on finding and implementing “uncommon, clever, and elegant” tax solutions rather than on identifying roadblocks to success.  This is a truly unique opportunity to relocate to coastal South Carolina and to handle Biglaw-caliber work at top-of-market pay in a small but highly collaborative and technically challenging environment.  For consideration, please submit your resume to jobs@partners-group.com  (for a full listing of our open positions, please visit http://www.partners-group.com/current-opportunities).
